Atlanta’s Top Tortas
When you’re craving a sandwich with a little something…extra delicioso you can always count on a Torta. We put together our Top Torta places with a focus on the most authentically mouthwatering, hard to find spots in Atlanta.
Las Tortas Locas
Multiple Locations
With 9 locations in metro Atlanta – and one of the largest Tortas menus we’ve ever seen – Las Tortas Locas is always a great decision. Their specific tortas are incredible and not just focused on the flavors of Mexico. They’ve got a Cubana with ham, an Espanola with chorizo, a Hawaiian with ham and pineapple, and much more. For a standard Torta, you can’t go wrong with a michoacana and its perfectly fried carnitas chunks.
Tortas Factory Del DF
5781 Buford Highway Northeast
Doraville, GA 30340
(770) 452-8470
Tortas Factory Del DF is one of Buford Highway’s best, offering delicious tortas from their counter service spot north of I-285. They make delicious standards, including the breaded steak (Milanesa) and the Chorizo with potatoes, but for an adventurous approach to a Mexican style Torta, try the nopales (cactus) con Huevo (egg).
Puras Tortas (Plaza Fiesta mall)
4166 Buford Hwy NE # 1033, Atlanta, GA 30345
(404) 633-2110
This Mexican Torta fast casual chain has its only US location in Atlanta, at the iconic Plaza Fiesta mall. Their tortas focus on the familiar flavors of South America, including a Chliena sandwich with breaded steak and manchego, and an Argentina sandwich with breaded steak, Chorizo and cheese.
La Pastorcita
3304 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30329
(678) 705-8162
A Buford Highway Mexican restaurant better known for their delicious tacos, La Pastorcita’s take on a torta is tremendous, too. They make a delicious Cuban Torta with pork leg, hot dog, ham, cheese and eggs, a Toluquena Torta with chorizo, pork leg and cheese, and a Mexican Torta with steak, ham and cheese. They also do the standards, including a perfectly savory lengua de vaca (cow tongue) sandwich.
El Tesoro
1374 Arkwright Pl SE, Atlanta, GA 30317
(470) 440-5502
This Edgewood taco spot is one of Atlanta’s coolest venues, with a sprawling backyard built for taking down tacos and shots of tequila in the warmer months. But they have an incredibly creative kitchen, too, and put their own delicious spin on Mexican standards, including tortas. They’re not on the standard menu, so you’ll have to head over to check out the specials, but it’s always worth a visit.
Carnitas Michoacan
3595 Clairmont Rd, Atlanta, GA 30319
(404) 464-8128
Like La Pastorcita, this Buford Highway hot spot is known for their tacos, but they make a mouthwatering torta, too. They have solid versions of the standards, including Pork, Ham and Al Pastor, but a great one to try is the Tortas Ahogadas. The sandwich is dipped in a delicious hot salsa for a messy, crave worthy sandwich experience.
Carniceria Ramirez
2600 Bolton Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318
(404) 355-6132
If you don’t know, some of the best places to get tortas tend to be Mexican grocery stores, where they source the best torta ingredients for your tastebuds. Carniceria Ramirez, one of ATL’s best Mexican grocery stores, is no exception. With options like asada steak, chicken, carnitas and barbacoa, they have delicious standards, but for something different try the chicharron – deep fried pork skin to give a crispy and fatty element to your sandwich.
Carniceria Los Pinos
6342 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30328
(404) 256-7800
Instagram/lospinoscarniceria
Another one of the A’s best Mexican grocery stores, Carniceria Los Pinos in Sandy Springs delivers top notch tortas. They stick to some delicious standards, including Pastor, Barbacoa, Chorizo and Asada, but they also specialize in a lovely lengua torta that everyone should try.
Taco Cantina
2517 Spring Road, Suite 101, Smyrna, GA 30080
(678) 424-1826
We covered this delicious taco spot when they had their Old Fourth Ward location, and while they are not there anymore, they’re still making mouthwatering Mexican food in Smyrna, their original location. We were blown away by their tortas during the shoot, which included everything from barbacoa, chorizo and al pastor to a Veggie Torta, a Shrimp Torta and Salmon Torta. A must try for Torta-hunters in North West Atlanta.
