How to Shop Local This Holiday Season

Are you ready for the holidays? I’m far from Oprah, but these are some products and services I’m absolutely loving. They’re also products you’re loving so THANKS for the fabulous suggestions via social media. Extra bonus, most of these are local artisans or retailers.

The Spotted Trotter’s meats are incredible and I stalk them regularly at the Grant Park Farmer’s Market. They’ve got you covered on everything from sausages to salami.

I was turned on to Beautiful Briny Sea Salt by several friends. Suzi Sheffield AKA “The Salt Unicorn” has come out with a product that’s delicious with a fun, fabulous presentation.

Doux South, Phickles Pickles and the Preserving Place on the West Side are perfect for the pickling and preserving lover in your life. And no one covers pickling humor like Portlandia.

Totally digging Caja Popcorn’s funky flavors. It’s a perfect hostess gift, much more fun than a typical bottle of wine.

We did an Atlanta Eats segment at Hop City and I thought it would be a great “dude” gift idea. Box up a growler bottle from your favorite local place with a gift card.

Lots of suggestions came in for sweet and sugary stuff. High Road Craft Ice Cream, Candy Cake Company, Cacao Atlanta, The Cookie Studio, Sweet Cheats, Ratio BakeShop, Emily G’s Jams and Just Add Honey Tea Company are all solid choices. For your four legged pals, try Big Daddy Biscuits.

I’m obsessed with the candles from Graybill & Downes. This is a new housewares company but the candles are so fragrant and fresh.

If you love the latest and greatest Georgia items, sign up for the fantastic Georgia Crafted monthly box. It’s like a birch box for Georgia delicacies.

The Cook’s Warehouse Lekue Citrus Sprayer is the most brilliant idea ever. If you love adding citrus to your foods this is a must. Why didn’t I think of this?!

Beauty lovers will swoon over Amy Bransford’s Hollywood Oxygen Facial at The Aviary. Her organic services will please any beauty addict. Gift certificates never go out of style.

And some random local and not so local things I love: Anything from Pur Minerals, a makeup line based in Atlanta. More local cosmetics at Woo Cosmetics, a small beauty supply store with outrageously good service. Jo Malone Vitamin E products are THE BEST but not cheap. It’s a splurge but SO worth it. If you love soda water, make it at home with the Soda Stream. I’m not crazy about the add in flavors but I love this invention.

Happy holidays and happy shopping!
